Hello I have a Apple Watch series 3 , 38mm case, will the new braided loop strap fit on this watch and if so do I need the 40 mm strap??

Can you use a 38mm strap on a 42mm series 3 watch? Hi, my husband has bought me the Apple Watch series 3 42mm however the strap is way too big, even in the tightest hole. can I purchase a 38mm strap to use instead or will it not fit the watch? Thanks.
