Using iPad Air 4 As A Second Monitor

I am trying to use my iPad Air 4 as a second monitor on my Surface Pro. The SPro will recognize the iPad as a bluetooth device. When I connect the two devices via adapters/cables - device not supported shows on the iPad. Do I need to use a particular usb-c adapter? Is there specific software?
