Iphone 12 pro setup. Start fresh or use data from old phone.

I have a new iPhone 12 pro. I've been sharing an apple ID with someone for years and am thinking of just starting fresh with the new phone and creating my own apple ID. Is this a bad idea? Will I lose all my apps and data? Text threads?

Another reason I'm thinking of starting fresh is because the iCloud on my iPhone 7 isn't working properly and I really don't think it's been backing anything up. it shows a negative number in space used, etc. Just wondering if i'm creating a bigger headache or if I'm on the right track here. Thanks for the future wisdom!

If you create a new Apple ID, any apps that you have paid for you're going to have to pay for them again. Any apps or anything that you have saved you'll loose as well. Anything that is backed up on iCloud will be lost as well. This decision is totally up to you and the only person that can make the determination if it's worth it or not is you. If you are sharing an Apple ID with someone then everything they do as well will either be backed up or they can get information you may not want them to get. You could change the password so that they can't use it anymore. However, if they know your recovery information they will be able to change it again. I would suggest it is in your best interest to either get them to stop using the Apple ID that you are using or get a new one. It will be a headache as you will loose EVERYTHING but you'll also be able to get started using your own and everything that you do will stay with just you.
