M1 Mac Mini and Thunderbolt Display

I have an old Mac mini with the same display large square hard wired thunderbolt. New Mac mini’s have small C connector those monitor is didnt us hdmi. So what do we do ? Thanks. Dan

i was hoping to use my old Mac as a monitor with the M1 Mac mini. I’ll just wait to purchase, I guess. I would hope Apple would provide a fix for this...

Hi Mariya,

I can confirm I have successful connected a Thunderbolt Display to a Mac mini M1. You need a thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 2 adapter but otherwise it seems to work just fine.

I’m mostly shocked that a brand-new, state-of-the-art M1 can’t do what a late-2012 Mac Mini can do.

I have the same: 2x 27" Thunderbolt and want to connect them to the M1 Macbook Air.

I have not. Returned M1, bought a 2018 Mac Mini refurb. Have one TB and some rando HDMI monitor for #2.

That is great. What about the second Thunderbolt monitor that this entire discussion is about?

The PC monitor is the second one in the hdmi 2.0 plug, My thunderbolt is plugged into one of the USB 4.0 plug

If your display also has HDMI, you could try that. I am running with a new Mac mini M1 with a single display 2560x1600 @ 60 Hz using a good HDMI 2.1 cable.

I should have been clear that I am connected directly to the Mac mini HDMI.

Type c to hdmi is working fine. It’s just that the Thunderbolt Display isn’t. Also, Thunderbolt Display does not have any other port except for thunderbolt.
