Do the iPhone and watch charge at the same time or sequentially?

I notice that if I connect the phone to the MagSafe Duo charger, and then my watch, the watch doesn’t start charging while the phone is charging. Same if I connect the watch first, then the phone doesn’t start charging when connected. Is this normal function?

iPhone 12 Pro Max, iOS 14

You don’t have a high enough charging block. If the output is not 5v/3a it wont duel charge. I found that out the hard way because i have an old 29w charging block that only outputs 2.4a.

No, the MagSafe Duo Charger has iPhone charger pad and Apple Watch charger connected together. Powered by 30W Apple charger and usbc to lightning cable. Just released this week. I’m noticing that when both devices are connected only the first one to connect charges. The second doesn’t start charging. Not sure why. Haven’t seen that discussed anywhere in Apple’s website or product reviews.

Same here, i do not like it. I am returning it to Apple. if you put your watch first, you will have the iphone beep and light up in the middle of the night when starting charging after the watch.

Also because of the magnet and the lightness of the MagSafe you cannot take your phone with one hand without risking to sending your watch to the floor. No practicle at all when you are in bed.
