Are Apple store unlocked iPhones GSM or CDMA , I am from South Africa and we support GSM and I am looking at buying a phone from America as they are unaffordable here. Just the normal iPhone 12 comes to $1300 here and in America the iPhone 12 is $799.

A few things you need to be aware of before purchasing from the U.S. Apple online store:

  1. You will need a U.S.-based credit card to make the purchase.
  2. Apple will not ship overseas.
  3. If you elect to get an AppleCare+ plan with the phone, the phone can only be serviced in the U.S.
  4. Unlocked iPhones do not come with a cellular SIM card. You will need to request one from your cellular provider.
  5. When placing an order, you will need to specific an unlocked phone. The unlocked phones can work with either GSM or CDMA networks.

You can't purchase the phone from your country or have Apple ship it to you from the US. Additionally, if you buy a phone in the US and take it to your country, it will have no warranty in your country. Should it require repair or replacement, you will have to physically bring it back to the US. The savings you might enjoy will quickly evaporate should you need service.
