MacBookAir8,2 - A1932 (EMC 3184)

Hello,

My wife has a MacBookAir8,2 - A1932 (EMC 3184).

There is an OS update that will not install "Big Sur" because she does not have enough drive space.

Current drive capacity: 120 GB

Being used: 108 GB

Free: 12 GB

Can this macbook get an SSD upgrade to a larger capacity to something like 500 GB - 1 TB?

Thank you

Daren

There are adequate examples for SSD upgrade, including external; to run later macOS from there.

And these can be optioned with enclosures; either to swap internal SSD, or run new one

externally. Options could include 'port-powered USB' ~ or AC-powered enclosure.

[MacTracker shows yours as 2018 model, that may have replaceable SSD, other resources show it

as 2019 model; OWC groups the 2018 with 2017 as replaceable, or with 2019 on newer fringe that

would require external SSD upgrade within an enclosure; & use any upgrade external to leave OEM

hardware alone; boot from second drive to run. MacTracker shows 2018 as 8.0 GT/s NVMe PCIe x4]

Hi, Daren, maybe i can help you. Try this:

https://www.forbes.com/sites/bradmoon/2019/07/20/how-to-replace-your-macbook-air-ssd/?sh=7b5f194912db

some models of macbook air had the ssd directly soldered onto the logic board, and as such is not upgradeable. Your only option would be to buy an external ssd. You should check out everymac.com for specs on your macbook air, including if it’s upgradeable or not.

PS: to verify your build model year, a good lookup page

such as EveryMac Ultimate Mac Lookup can help identify

(by other numbers) incl serial, model, EMC, order # etc.

https://everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/

Found some confusion among searchable databases I use

so could not clarify before first post timed-out. OWC site

has (MB/Air) Upgrades page, that shows all models/parts.

{This groups some MB/Air build-year models together.}

External 'Storarge Options at Apple' also covers many examples.

Narrowing these down, (OWC site storage options) takes time.

Good luck & happy trails!
