Is there a way to move the Mac dock a couple of mm lower?

The Mac dock has moved a couple of mm higher and so, background images or when scrolling down in Safari or other programs is somewhat distracting.

Here is an image that shows the gap...

Is there a way to move it lower? I'm on Big Sur but it did this on Catalina as well.

Thanks...

Aha - if it's a design feature, then it makes it easier to put up with but I can't understand the reason for it. It's very distracting... kind of like the tope part of the screen and the menu bar - there's a gap there as well which is extremely irritating.

Here's a pic.. although the gap is very small, it's very messy to look at.

Here it is magnified...

Really can't see the design point of this where someone thought probably, "I know, let's have part of the wallpaper seep through to the user in fullscreen/max window size, just under the menu bar!!!"

Yes, I know that this can be done. I did try it and couldn't get used to not seeing it. Also, sometimes when I moved the mouse there for it to appear, sometimes the dock wouldn't appear and I would more often than not, have to shake the mouse pointer in that area.

I suppose one solution is to have a black wallpaper on every desktop I have which would remove this distraction for me.

I was just wondering any... thanks for your input.
