Extra Account

I have an extra empty user account that I did not create. I have a laptop using the same apple ID and name, but not sure if it's related... I also just recently updated to big sur but not sure if that has anything to do with the extra accounts creation. I've tried to delete it, but it asks me for a password that I do not know. How was this account created and how do I get rid of it?

Thanks!

Just to note, your laptop has nothing to do with your iMac. Accounts have to be created, or intentionally brought over from another Mac using Migration Assistant.

If you're logged in with your normal admin account, there shouldn't be anything preventing you from removing the other account.

Open System Preferences > Users & Groups. Click the lock at the lower left and enter your admin password. Click on the unknown account and click the minus button. You should get a choice of what you want to do with the account. Choose to remove it entirely (Delete the home folder).
