Target Display Mode

Can a new iMac 2020 27" (Catalina 10.15.7)use my Mid 2011 27.5" ( iMac as a display? I have connected the two with the correct Thunderbolt 2/3adapter and each iMac shows connections on the Thunderbolt ports. I have the original iMac keyboard and CMD F2 does nothing. Am I wasting my time? Is there a way around Apple excluding the 2020 models if that is what they have done?

No. Please refer to Use your iMac as a display with target display mode. It has been archived, so its information may no longer be applicable.

There are hardware and software requirements: "Make sure that your iMac is using macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 or earlier. You can't use target display mode with later versions of macOS, or with Boot Camp and Windows."

I have 2 27" 2020 iMacs, both work perfectly , whenever new Macs or verisons of Mac OS are released these forums are flooded with issues, however in almost every single case it is due to either a third party app, peripheral or a user error that is causing the problem. The 2020 iMacs are no different, however I can attest that I and millions of others have 2020's that work perfectly.

Not exactly true. For the target, nothing past the mid 2011systems with an OS after High Sierra 10.13.6 will work. But for the primary systems up until 2020, TDM worked with thunderbolt connections to the aforementioned older systems . Again, I am looking for a work around, if possible, which appears to not be the case for the new 2020 iMacs.
