Enrolling iPads through ABM with Jamf

I have been tearing my hair out trying to do things the right way! I have 32 ipads to be used in schools for music. My organisation is a music service provider, not a school so we were told to go down the Apple Business Manager route.

A week later I'm in but then I see I need either a Reseller ID or Apple Customer ID to enrol the devices (why not just a serial number!). I ring the most recent reseller for 16 devices who gives me a number that 'cannot be found' when I try to use it. I assume the reseller has not signed up to these services.

The other 16 have apparently come from a reseller who went out of business a year ago so I have no number.

I have also contacted 3 resellers for Jamf products and nobody gets back to me!. Apple say go through Configurator.

Does anyone else have any suggestions? I thought that using ABM would make things simpler in the long term.

My queries therefore are: -

Must I now use Configurator?

Is there an MDM provider in the UK with whom I can deal directly without having to buy their product through a reseller?

Is there somewhere/someone else I could go to for good advice on all this in the UK?

Thanks in anticipation!

Ok. It sounds like you're trying to figure out how to get devices into Apple Business Manager which will then enroll the devices with Jamf.

To enroll with Apple Business Manager, you have 2 options:

  1. Enroll with Apple Configurator 2 (iOS, iPadOS, and tvOS devices only). This is often the only option available if enrolling after purchase.
  2. Purchase through an Authorized Apple Reseller. They will need your customer ID from ABM, and you will need their reseller ID. Once this is established, devices purchased through the reseller should appear in your account.

Unfortunately, if the reseller has gone out of business, you have no option other than Apple Configurator 2.

You can purchase directly through Apple Business or a local reseller. Those are the only 2 options that don't require configurator. MDM has nothing to do with it.

This is a great forum, but you could also get involved with London Apple Admins. They can connect you to more localized groups, and give good advice for the UK.
