When importing photos from iPhone, there are two different versions of each photo that appear in Image Capture

We have an iPhone 11 Pro Max. When we try and import photos to either of our iMacs, there are two versions of each photo that are shown. The two versions have different sizes and the colors are different. There is an E added to the duplicate.

The first time we recall this happening was after an iOS update months ago. We have Lightroom, and can adjust the photos ourselves. We would just like one version to appear, without the iPhone appearing to make adjustments. When we import from a digital camera, there is only one version presented for import.

What is causing this?

Thanks.

Hello Computer Larry,

We see that you have some duplicate files that are showing some differences. Do you happen to use iCloud Photo Library with optimized storage? Details are here:

Set up and use iCloud Photos - Apple Support

What optimized storage does is keeps a lower resolution file on your device, and then you can download a higher resolution file from the cloud. It reduces the amount of storage that your photos take on your device.
