“Inkjet3.driver will damage your computer”

Initially my issue was "PDE.plug in will damage your computer". I searched the communities and found instructions from October to delete and reinstall the printer and an explanation that HP had decertified the PDE.plug in. I thought the problem with the driver had been fixed.

So I installed and reinstalled and immediately upon installation (before I even tried to print anything) I got the message "Inkjet3.driver will damage your computer". How do I get rid of this one? Delete and reinstall again? It's not giving me the option to use a generic driver - just the HP driver. It gives me an "AirPrint" option, which I've never even heard of before tonight, but this is a network printer in my house and AirPrint appears to be for iOS devices.

Is this printer (HP OfficeJet Pro 8610) just not compatible with Big Sur? Will I ever be able to use it without these error messages? This only started in the past few days. Before that the printer worked fine with Big Sur.

Hey phenyxxfire,

We understand that you are getting an error message in regards to your HP Printer.

It sounds like you may have already removed and added the printer back as suggested in If your HP printer doesn't work and you see a warning that HP software '...will damage your computer' but the issue persists.

If that's the case, we also recommend trying the steps from HP Printers - A [software component] will damage your computer message displays when printing or while installing (macOS) which should help to resolve this issue.

If you do still get the same or similar error message after those steps, please reach out to HP.

Thanks!
