Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and depending on which Mac model you have, download El Capitan, High Sierra, Mojave, Catalina, or Big Sur. You don't need an intermediate version when going from Yosemite, except when upgrading a 2010 or 2012 desktop Mac Pro to Mojave.
