Seri stopped working with my Google maps. Help!

I was excited about finally being able to "hands-free" use Siri directly with Google Maps. "Hey Siri, navigate to work using Google Maps!" Google Maps opens with my current location and my work address destination (yay!), however Google Maps then just hangs on the map with the spinning circle. It never determines a route and never shows the start button like it does when it doesn't have a cellular/data connection, except it doesn't go to the "retry" screen. It just hangs indefinitely.

I have to kill Google Maps and launch it manually, and type the appropriate address into google maps then it works normally. I have tested it Many times and it is always the same problem, so it's not my data/cellular connectivity. It is something to do with the Siri interaction with Google Maps.

Anyone know of a solution?
