ICloud for Windows did not install properly

I have seen several posts on this issue, but no good resolution.

This morning I was running an older version of iCloud for Windows (on a Surface Pro tablet) which appeared to be working fine. However, I was researching an issue with viewing iCloud Notes on the PC.

Today I upgraded iCloud for Windows, and although the actual software installation seemed to go OK (I was able to sign onto Apple), when I specified (only) that I wanted to sync Mail/Contacts/Calendars/Tasks, the software popped up a window saying:

“ICloud for Windows did not install properly. To repair it, you need to go

to Apps and Features, select iCloud Outlook from the app list and click

Modify. When prompted, click on Repair. Open Apps and Features...”

I clicked on the link (Open Apps and Features...), and did a repair (which indicated that the repair was successful). I then (just in case) rebooted the machine. However, when I launched iCloud (which showed I was already signed into Apple) and specified just Mail/Contacts/Calendars/Tasks (then clicked on ‘Apply’), the same error message window popped up.

The Windows machine has a valid, licensed, authenticated version of Microsoft 365, and Outlook is running fine. I am running the latest version of Windows 10 Pro (version 20H2), build 19042.585.

I even uninstalled every Apple product from the PC, and installed “just” iCloud for Windows, but it didn’t help.

Can anyone provide any insights? Thanks.

Thank you for the reply rckingsley!

To confirm, you also followed the "If you still need help" section of that same article we provided you? If so, let's try downloading it using another user account on your PC. If you do not have another user account on your PC, create a test user account. This will help us isolate the issue to the user account or a system-wide issue.

Cheers!

Thanks for the response. Yes, I did follow the “if you still need help”, but it didn’t provide much. All of those items appeared to be OK on the computer.

I did try another Apple account on the computer, and it failed the same way. However, on a ‘different’ computer, I installed the latest version of iCloud for Windows and tried it, and it worked fine.

It appears to be a problem with the setup on the computer, but I’m stumped as to what it can be. I may decide to uninstall / reinstall Microsoft 365 (as well as iCloud for Windows), and see if that works...

Thanks for the article, but (regrettably) it doesn’t help with the problem I am having. All of the items in the article are as they should be on my Windows 10 machine (latest OS, latest iCloud download, 8GB memory, plenty of storage, Windows Media Player installed).

It was working on an older release of iCloud for Windows, but the upgrade has killed that.

I am nervous about telling any of my clients to upgrade iCloud for Windows (if they have the older version)..
