Apple Watch 1

So I just got an Apple Watch gen 1 and I have an iPhone 5s, it says to update my phone to the latest version but it then says that my phone is at the latest version. What do I do??

I can’t update my Apple Watch it says update your phone to the latest version but it is already updated I tried everything it doesn’t work my phone is on iOS 13.7 and I haven’t used my Apple Watch for years now it is an old model and I don’t know which version it is on it tells me to update my phone in order to update my Apple Watch but my phone is already updated help!!!

When trying to pair my watch says I need to update my phone but it is already updated I just bought an Apple Watch but when I’m trying to pair it to my phone it says I need to update my phone to the lastest version of iOS but my phone is telling me I have the lastest version..help!! Depends what version of WatchOS is on the watch,an iphone 5s will only update to ios 12,if the watch has WatchOS6 on it then you will need a phone that has at least ios13 which is an iphone 6s or higher.
