I bought one of the new Macbook Pro 16" last week and I am wondering whether I have to charge it or not, from the box? I haven't bought a Macbook in years, but I remember when I used to buy a phone many years ago, they'd recommend a full-charge first. Thanks in advance.

There is no requirement to charge before using.
As with all Lithium based batteries:
You can charge at anytime, for any amount of time.
You can use it while charging.
You can leave it attached to the charge circuit after the battery reaches 100%.
Do not repeatedly deplete the battery to low levels.
As a rule of thumb: If near an AC outlet, leave it attached to the charge circuit. If you need portability, use it on battery power.

No, there is no "set time" You can charge it when convenient to do so. I leave mine plugged in whenever it is convenient to do so. Neither your computer nor battery will be damaged by leaving it plugged in. Leaving it plugged in reduces the rate of accumulation of battery cycles.

I would, why not (?) especially if you are setting it up and transferring your data.

Yeh, I just meant in general. For instance, the macbook is charging now, however I wondered whether there was a set time you had to charge it for upon unboxing. Like, with the old Nokias where you had to charge them for 4-6 hours upon opening.
