Apple TV 4K 24 FPS Issue

Are you ever going to fix the stuttering issue regarding the 24 frame per second?

The Apple TV 4K has no support for the integer framerates of 24.000 and 60.000, resulting in dropped frames every ~42 seconds (in the first case). This is due to:

  • video with 24.000 fps gets outputted as 23.976
  • video with 60.000 fps gets outputted as 59.94

A increasing amount of Netflix Movies / Series has 24.000 fps - this is very annoying.

I recently 'upgraded' from a 4k Amazon Fire Stick to Apple TV 4k, only because I needed to use some video apps not available on Amazon's platform. To my shock and sadness, this device, nearly 3x the price, does not smoothly play 24 frame content to my plasma TV in native 24 frame filmic glory! Having the Apple TV output 60hz results in less attractive motion though it does not stutter.

Thanks Dummsky for openening up a new thread as the previous one was closed to any more comments or "me too's". If anyone else comes across this thread wondering why the most expensive streaming box can't deliver correctly, please click here and file a report that Apple might actually read: https://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html

I might still be within the return window, better check!

Ps- I have observed this so far in Netflix and Amazon apps on the Apple TV 4k. I don't play ripped files (not that there's anything wrong with that).

From that same forum:

“Because the ripped files available for download are 24fps. I really don't think Apple will be receptive to aiding in ripped files playing properly on 3rd party apps.”

Netflix sends their content correctly through their own app, and then it has no issues. It is the rippers that change things incorrectly.

Did you read all the 48 pages? I guess not.

I didn't say that Netflix send their content incorrect. But Netflix has an icreasing amount of movies and series (especially european series) with 24 fps (e.g. Biohackers and The Witcher) . This is not an error but they are NOT displayed correctly as 24fps will be displayed as 23,976 on the Apple TV 4K. This leads to stuttering every 42 seconds.

Also on Amazon Prime TWD: World Beyond is send in 24fps leading to stuttering.

This has absolutly NOTHING to do with ripped files!
