Broken Butterfly Mechanism [MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017)]

Hi everyone,

Unfortunately it happened...

My arrow up key was kind of stuck a little bit and instead of following the process of resetting the SMC, I was clever enough to get off the key and then when trying to push it back in broke the white butter fly mechanism (do not know the official term for it).

I bought the Mac in the UK, but now I am living in Germany.

Can any advise on this?

TIA!

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.12

You will need to have an expensive repair performed by Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider to replace the Top Case Assembly which also includes the Keyboard, Trackpad, Speakers, and Battery.

FYI, Apple has a free Keyboard repair program that you may have been eligible for, but now that the butterfly mechanism is damaged you will not qualify:

Just because one key is broken?

That's a sad story, but thanks for your detailed answer.

I will have to live without a properly functioning arrow key now I guess :D

PS: I actually found something here, and you are right Apple makes you pay in case it's your own fault.
