I am unable to use iCloud to back up my iPhone - have tried clicking iCloud backup and it says "backing up...estimating time remaining" but nothing happens - the little circle just turns and it seems that the phone does not back up.... Any idea what's going on here?

Is your iPhone connected to a Wi-Fi network, with Internet access, for the backups? It cannot back up to iCloud via a cellular connection. Also, try connecting your phone to a power source for the backups.

Perhaps your backup doesn't fit into your iCloud storage (and you might need to buy extra storage for iCloud).
Check your iCloud Storage:--> Settings>[your name]>iCloud and see the graphic that appears.
If you need more storage:--> Upgrade your iCloud storage plan - Apple Support
