var folder - chromium app hidden and causing crashes

Since installing Big Sur have been getting sporadic crashes caused by Chromium app (something to do with Google Chrome, I think, but I uninstalled that a long time ago).

The console log (extract below) suggests that it's located in the Var folder. Located that and browsed it. Quite a lot of files / folders with obscure names. Some of the folders inaccessible. Then tried using the terminal and performed a "find" on the term "chromium".

sudo find /var/folders "chromium"

quite a lot of stuff came up - notably:

/var/folders/gk/0dzm94x90tzdbg6b9pw9lw140000gp/T/JxBrowser/7.10/Chromium.app

Have deleted it all. Hopefully no more problems.

What puzzles me is why does the Chromium app seem so up to date (see screenshot below - August 2020) when I deleted Google Chrome from my computer years ago?

This wouldn't be related to Chrome directly. JxBrowser is used by some java applications to imbed a chromium browser. It sounds like you have and use a java app where the JxBrowser it leverages is crashing. I'm experiencing this as well and believe it's a known issue with JxBrowser and Big Sur, because the former still leverages an older version of Chromium (84).

Assuming I'm correct, the team that develops JxBrowser will need to update their product to a newer version of Chromium (they've posted on their site that this is in progress). Once that occurs, the Java app that you have, which leverages it, will also need to be updated by whoever develops it to use the newer version of JxBrowser, before this stops happening.

In my case my Java app mostly still works although I have noticed a few features that break occasionally as a result which requires that I restart it to regain access to those features.
