Keyboard no longer working with iMac desktop

I have a older model iMac with a USB connected keyboard that has stopped working. Can anyone assist?

iMac 21.5″, OS X 10.11

Please restart in Safe Mode per Safe Mode Reset instructions and then retest. You will likely need to use another USB keyboard for the restart.
