Homepod mini unable to update/power from mac(orange light blinking)

Homepod mini connected to iMac only blinks with the orange light. Left connected for an hour as per https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208248 this means it's updating. Have tested both ports, restarted the iMac and reset the homepod both by removing from Home app and long press to red light/beeps. Plug back into the included power adapter and sets up without issue, Finally reset and connected to the mac without pairing to take the iPhone out of the mix but still no dice, just blinks. Anyone else unable to plug into a mac ?
