Child permissions for free app downloads

Hello, I’m a little new to the family management options for multiple accounts. I recently moved into the applesphere and because I previously had the kids iPads on my account I quickly realized I needed to set up separate accounts for them. This then naturally led to the fact that Apple dissallows children under the age of 13 to download apps without their account password. Is there a way to change this setting? If not, can I simply change my children’s ages to 13?

i generally think that my children can be trusted to download and play free apps, more so than manage their own account passwords reasonably.

looking forward to your feedback.

Regards
