I have just lost the totality of my inbox on both my Mac and my iphone, since they are synchronised.
What could be the cause of this and can I retrieve my messages ?

Thankyou but I do not use an icloud Mail Server.However, I found that my mails had migrated to a folder called 'important' which I did not create and which claimed to have 28 messages - but all my inbox mails where there, so I have found them anyway.Thankyou for trying to help me. dovewoodfr
If using iCloud Mail Server they maybe still available in Deleted folder by going to www.icloud.com and logging into your Account with your Apple ID and Password. If older than 30 days - they are probably gone.
