I performed the reset on a MacBook Pro (2020) with the T2 chip (using both methods above). The first did not work so I tried the second and now the machine will not turn back on. Any suggestions?

Reset? What reset? What methods did you use?

What was the original problem that caused you to need to do a "reset"?

Does the laptop make a noise within a minute of connecting the charger? Have you tried using the other USB-C ports especially on the other side of the laptop?

Try an SMC Reset.

Try unplugging the charger from the electrical outlet for a minute to reset the charger's internal circuitry.
