external speakers not working on Mac mini

My Mac Mini does not register an external speaker when I plug the speaker jack into the speakers socket on the mini.

Speakers are Logitech LS11.

The speakers work really well on my husband Lenovo computer. So it is not the speakers.

Checking the mini Mac preferences > sound> output shows Internal speakers built-in and ability to us Air ?? on the TV, but no option for other speakers.

On Sound> Sound Effects > tap Play sound effects through>

Options are

Select sound output device

Internal speakers.

When selected sound output device the only thing that shows in output is internal speakers.

My questions are

1 - Does Logitech speakers need a driver or software downloaded?

2 - How to get speaker options for external speakers in Sound output for the Mac mini?

I have tried to find the answers to the 2 questions on the internet, but have been unable to find answers.

My operation system is Catalina version10.15.7

My Mac is 2.6 GHZ Dual-core intern coreI5 with 8 GB of memory.

Mac mini, macOS 10.15
