Mophie 3-in-1 iPhone 12pm issue

Hello there. New to Apple and just picked up the mophie 3 in 1 charger yesterday direct at the Apple store. The watch and AirPod pros charge no issue, but the phone will only charge if it’s in landscape or turned upside down. Is that normal lol. I’ve tried moving it all different positions and have found the only two ways that it truly charged to full was when placed in landscape or upside down. Kinda odd for a 140$ piece of tech??
