Connections to host p54-imap.mail.me.com on the default ports failed.

iCloud mail on MacOS has triangle with ! mark and says, Connections to host p54-imap.mail.me.com on the default ports failed. What do I do to receive iCloud email on Apple Mail?

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.14

icloud email Both my wife and I are having a problem downloading emails from icloud. From my imac I get this message: There may be a problem with the mail server or network. I have checked the settings which are all okay. My wife gets the same problem from her ipad with her icloud email. Other email addresses on my mac are working normally. Have not been able to connect with icloud for emails for three days now. this problem is only on our "mail" apps. I can get icloud online okay to read our emails there. Any problem solving ideas appreciated. thanks.
