IOS14 - IPhone XR - GPS very slow

Hi,

I have a new iPhone XR running iOS14.2 and am finding GPS is very slow. Waze, Maps, Google Maps etc all suffer from the same issue where GPS struggles to keep up when driving (and I’m in London so only doing c20mph).

I’ve tried resetting, changing setting on location accuracy etc but to no avail. I thought it could by Vodaphone (my carrier) but the same SIM in my old iPhone 7 works perfectly.

I use navigation a lot - in the car, on my bike and citymapper on the train - so it’s a real issue.

Any suggestions, or should I just return the XR and go back to my old iPhone?

thanks

Hello Jenson-and-Lewis,

It sounds as though your location isn't loading quickly in all navigation and GPS enabled apps. Ensuring your location is shown accurately is very important. Testing an alternate device is a great troubleshooting step to help isolate the issue. With the iPhone XR has this been a continuous issue, or did it start after update iOS?

iOS 14.3 has been released as well. If you haven't updated it is recommended to do so. You can find the steps for updating in the following article.

Update your iPhone, iPad ,or iPod touch

If updating doesn't resolve the issue have you attempted to turn off Location Services and GPS, restart the iPhone, then turn those settings back on? If not, we do recommend doing so next. The steps for turning off Location Services and GPS can be found in Turn Location Services and GPS on or off on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

If you continue to have issues after those steps you'll want to reach out to Apple via the Get Support website.

Have a great day!
