Mail Trash & Junk

After installing Big Sur Junk mail is deleted immediately. My junk folder is empty. I disabled junk mail filtering. Now junk mail shows up in my In box. I cannot use the Junk icon in the Mail header, because it does not move junk mail but deletes it immediately. Instead, I have to drag junk mail from In to Junk. How do I fix this?

Hello Bill Roberts.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that junk mail deletes immediately. We’re happy to help.

What is the exact error message, if any, you receive? Please try the steps here: Change Junk Mail preferences in Mail on Mac - Apple Support

We’d also like you to try some troubleshooting steps to isolate the cause. Please use the steps here to start your Mac in safe mode: Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support We’d also like you to test in a new user account using the steps here: Set up users, guests and groups on Mac - Apple Support

Let us know the results.

Take care.

I got no error message or notice of any kind. I noticed a problem only after my Junk box had been emptied completely without my typical daily junk mail added. At that point I unmarked "Send to Junk" in Preferences.

Today junk mail appears in my In box, as expected. I highlight it and hit the Junk button at the top of the Mail window. The marked junk mail does not go to Junk as before. Instead, it disappears. I have found that the only way I can preserve these messages in the Junk box is to manually drag them there.

I started in Safe mode. I did not change Preferences to "Send to Junk". I did not see any change. Junk continues to appear in my In box. I can drag junk but not click the Junk button.

I have not yet tried testing a new user.

I am using 11.0.1. I have not installed 11.1 yet.
