timecoded mp4 export from fcpx
Hi,
I need to export timecoded mp4 from fcpx so that another editor can then import them into premiere and finish the edit. Anyone knows how to do it?
Cheers,
Lina

Not sure what “timecoded” means in this context. You are exporting an mp4 file with what codec? H264? File->Share->Master File, then click Settings and choose Computer.
This will produce an mp4 file with H264. It is certainly one that can be used in Premiere.
The usual way to take an FCP project to Premiere is to export an XML and use XtoCC to convert the XML into a format that can be imported into Premiere. There is no point in talking to clients about this because they have no idea what they're doing. You need to talk to Premiere editor to find out what they want and how they want it delivered.
There is no incompatibility with anything when you export a video file. I suggest you just do a test. Export a short snippet using the settings I described and ask them if that is ok. If not, then ask them for specific details of the their requirements.
Hi Tom,
I'm not sure what the client means, so that's why I'm asking here. I'm going to be editing a project for them, and they want to then assemble the timeline I create in Premiere and have requested to export timecoded mp4 files. I've never heard of such. Therefore asking here.
I don't suppose they want to have an actual timecode effect burned onto a video itself, it's for a corporate client and just wouldn't work. It's more for them to know what bit of video goes where. I was thinking that it's maybe exporting individual files, but with some code in the file metadata that would indicate at what time they are to play in a timeline in Premiere or something. Is it possible to make such an export from fcpx?

Lina
Thanks Luis, I'm not sure what that means either, therefore asking here. Idea is- to take a timeline from FCPX to Premiere. The usual FCPX non-compatibility with other systems issue.
The exported file has timecode, beginning at whatever was set as the start time, by default 0:00:00:00. Or do you want to put on a timecode overlay? There is a timecode effect that you can add to an adjustment layer to display project or source timecode.
