Audio dropouts on Macbook Pro 2020 when using Ableton software

I just got a brand new macbook pro 2020 and was hoping it would make using music production software faster and easier to use but unfortunately it's done the opposite. I'm getting constant audio dropouts when using Ableton even though my CPU usage is under 30%. My previous macbook pro 2011 had no issues (it was just slow sometimes). I read online that some think this may be due to the T2 chip used in newer macbook pro models? Has anyone else had this issue?
