Connectivity

I have a iPad pro, 12.9 which I bought in Lisbon when my old iPad was stolen.

My Tower PC has seven USB Female Ports, all are USB 3.0

My Anker Power/Data Hub has ten ports; three are Power only and seven are Data Transfer/low power Charge USB 3.0

On arriving back in Coronavirus **** (the United Kingdom) where we are ruled by Spitting Image Puppets pretending to be Politicians, I have noticed the following.

The lead which came with the iPad will Charge the iPad from a Power Port (Mains fused plug with USB port) with a USB male x USB C Adaptor (The cable is USB both ends)

The same lead will also Charge from a dedicated Power Port on my Anker USB Hub.

All Okay so far, but here's the thing -

When plugged into a Data / Low Power Port it will ONLY Transfer Data and will not recharge.

Pain in the neck when I'm watching films as I work as, if I don't keep an eye on it, the battery drains and, when I plug it in to recharge it, I cannot stream from the 'net.

EVERYTHING else I have, from iPods, Kindles, iPhone, will charge AND transfer Data as normal, it is only the iPad with which I am having difficulty.

I have tried the following :-

Turning it off and turning it back on again (sarcasm)

Purchasing several different leads in differing configurations - all work fine...on everything except the iPad.

Plugged it directly into the charge/data USB Port on my PC Tower. results as above.

Any comments, please.

I have an iPad, and I use it a great deal, however I do not have the extensive setup that you have. I just know that when I got my first iPad and was using it connected to my Windows computer, it would almost always say Not Charging and that was due to the power issues. I have a dedicated power adapter plugged in by my desk to charge the iPad and one to charge my MBA. You would need a more power user around here to read this and respond if they have a more complex setup like you. I just know that Apple had indicated in the past the need for power greater than the standard USB ports to charge the iPad, especially if you are using it while charging it. It will use more power than you can get with the USB port.

The iPad requires more power to charge than an iPhone. The power converter that comes with the iPad for the iPads with the USB-C port is a higher wattage adapter, and the regular USB ports on the computer cannot deliver that much power. How you deal with that is up to you, but you will need a higher power port to charge the device, as you have seen from your Anker.

Okay,

1st iPad - bought in Madrid May last year when my Kindle Tablet gave up the ghost. IOS connection. Never used to Txfer Data only recharged from a USB Mains Plug.

2nd iPad - This one. Bought in Lisbon when the first one was stolen. Like the first one, never used to Txfer Data

May, on return to UK, noticed ‘problem’ because I started using it to Txfer Data.

This isn’t a big deal. Remebering to swap leads when I~’ve finished Txferring Data is my REAL problem, it~’s an irritation.

My problem is more that Apple are telling me that it should Txfer and Charge from a Tower Port (let’s ignore my Anker Hub for now) as long as the Port is a USB 3.0.

So, while I could put up with the minor irritation this causes, if Apple are right, MY iPad is faulty. And I would want it fixed.

So, while I am quite prepared to accept your version of why it’s happening because it sounds very logical, I am still not getting replies from -

Someoner with the same model to compare with.

Anything about differences in Power requirements for newer iPads in Apple’s website

Anything about the same in Trade Reviews or Op Ed peices

Anythiung about the same in any Forum sites.

Any Specification on any Amazon, eBay site that shows required Power Consumption.

Thanx for the reply, it was very helpful.
