Webpage (Facebook) using significant memory, closing may improve responsiveness of your Mac

I'm on Facebook webpage, using Safari 14.0.1, MacBook Pro 13", OS 10.15, 32 GB RAM. I'm not having any problem doing anything. I would like to know if there is any "housekeeping" I should do on my Mac or on Facebook? By analogy if I had too many videos on my iCloud account, I could backup then delete videos to recover space allotted in my account.

Will I keep getting this message until I do something? What? Is this only for Facebook webpage or is it an extension I have on my computer.

Bewildered, Henrik

Hello Henrik,

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, you are having an issue with a prompt about a website in Safari on your Mac. First, try running First Aid on your hard drive with the built in Disk Utility tool, as this can correct simple issues like you're experiencing.

How to repair a Mac disk with Disk Utility

Next, use safe mode to start up your Mac as it does the following things:

  • Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed
  • Loads only required kernel extensions
  • Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically
  • Disables user-installed fonts
  • Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Log in to your user account and test the issue while in safe mode and then restart normally and test the issue again.
