Does Apple ID allow hyphens in the username?

Hello. I wanted to create a new Apple ID, but it said it was an invalid name. It was something like myroot-mysuffix@yahoo.com. Does Apple ID does not like hyphens in the username? I would have to create a new yahoo mail account to have a username without a hyphen. Thanks.

There is no documentation on what is allowed or not in the prefix of an email address used as an AppleID. But it’s always a good idea to avoid any special characters in an email address as their allowed use is system dependent. Some systems will allow them, but many won’t.

Can you make an alias to that yahoo email account and try using that instead? As long as it is a receivable email address so you get the verification message, an alias should be fine.
