Safe-search on my google account

Hello,

on iMac I can't turn off safe-search on my google account. I use the same account on 2 PCs (with Windows OS), iPhone and iPad and on these devices safe-search is turned off. I use these devices on the same network, with the same router.

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.15

In that case just skip to Step 7 in What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your Mac. The earlier steps are more of a concern for its previous owner.

The point is to completely erase the Mac, and then install macOS. That must be accomplished. Only then will you be able to configure and use it as your own.

You may be able to use the procedure below to potentially identify what's going on. If "safe-search" is something affecting only your Google Account, then you will need to contact Google for assistance. I cannot help with Google products or services.

Start by inspecting the contents of the following folder:

~/Library/LaunchAgents

To open that folder, copy the entire line above and paste it in the Finder's Go menu > Go to Folder... field. Make it look like this:

... and click the Go button.

A Finder window will open. Make sure all its file names are readable by selecting View > as List or other selection that shows that folder's complete contents. Then, take a screenshot of that Finder window.

Often, there is nothing in that Launch Agents folder so don't be surprised to find it empty.

In the same manner as the above, navigate to this next folder:

/Library/LaunchDaemons

The Finder's Go menu > Go to Folder... field should look like this:

... and click the Go button once again.

Once again ensure all its files and their names are readable and capture a screenshot.

Then, repeat that exercise with the following folder:

/Library/LaunchAgents

Notice its pathname is different than the other two. The Finder's Go menu > Go to Folder... field should look like this:

In the end, you will have captured the contents of the following three separate folders:

~/Library/LaunchAgents

/Library/LaunchDaemons

/Library/LaunchAgents

All three will be saved to your Mac's Desktop with names "Screen Shot... " followed by the date and time they were captured. Please be sure to include or otherwise indicate the name of the folder that corresponds to each screenshot, so that you and I can keep track of which ones they are.

Post the entire contents of all three windows, one at a time, using the "picture" icon that appears below your reply text:

That little piece of information changes things dramatically.

Not only does the useless "Fortinet" remain installed, your friend was remiss in not properly preparing that Mac for sale. Assuming you're still in contact with him, please have him follow these instructions: What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your Mac.

Until that is accomplished you will encounter continual problems with that Mac.

You probably ought to contact Google for assistance, because I can't find anything wrong with the contents of those folders. Other than "Fortinet" that is, which I'm guessing is also required by your employer or similar institution...? It is doing nothing beneficial and should be uninstalled, assuming you have the authority to do that.

To my knowledge you cannot uninstall Google Chrome without uninstalling Google.
