Texts not sending on ipad

Got a new iPad Air recently and have noticed that my messages to one person who has an android phone, is not sending. I can text to this person on my IPad Pro and iPhone without problems, though. Strange... any thoughts or easy remedies?

The iPad will not send SMS text messages directly. You have to use the iPhone to forward these.
