Apple Watch
Apple Fitness+ requires Apple Watch Series 3 or later with watchOS 7.2 or later and one of the following Apple devices: iPhone 6s or later with iOS 14.3 or later, iPad with iPadOS 14.3 or later, or Apple TV with tvOS 14.3 or later.¹
Apple Fitness+ does not work with the Apple TV app. It requires a separate app/its own app.
I cancelled my Fitness+ subscription early because I could not use it on a big screen -- even with multiple Apple devices (Apple TV3, multiple iPhones, multiple iPads, multiple Mac computers). By most measures, I am an Apple "fanboy" and feel Apple is usually the best option. Sometimes Apple seems a little too greedy, and leaves us with bad user experiences. This is one of those times. This is the pandemic, and I would have found Fitness+ on a big screen enjoyable and helpful. IMO, Apple mostly missed an opportunity to make me feel happy about being a loyal customer.
Is there a timeline for Apple to add Fitness+ to the Roku Apple TV channel or create a separate channel for it? That would really make the service compelling.
Same for me. I have updated Apple devices with a Roku Premiere. Casting the screen works, but video is black with just sound.

Long thread about broader issues with the connectivity and Airplay. You won’t find a fix at this point I’m afraid
Same for me! I saw preview videos from my Roku tv and it looks good. Now when I have installed the real fitness +, it’s not working. I am very disappointed! I don’t want to look my workout videos through iPhone or iPad. This is not good!
Yep, you found the same problem I did - no option to choose that specifically covered Airplay, Fitness+ or Roku. I ended up logging it against Apple Watch in the hope that it would get redirected to the appropriate team. Not ideal
I agree with the person saying this issue ruined their whole day.
I finally got my 13 year old son to exercise with me and sadly we got stuck on this problem for hours until he finally lost patience.
I find this misleading that we can screencast the preview but not the workout.
I'm in the same boat. It's just so frustrating because the way that the fitness app is set up really works for me in a way that nothing else ever has. It's stupid that there isn't some option to access the workout videos through the Apple TV app that is on the freaking Roku. I mean they have really great, fun trainers and there are people out there who would utilize those videos without needing the badge system and rings that come with an Apple Watch.
Remember in the 90s when Apple was all about doing more and costing less? I hate that Apple works so well for me. I really, really like their products but their blatant abuse of their consumers is getting old. They don't even try to hide it.
I tried on my Roku with Airplay. It plays only the sound.
the preview videos play but don’t be fooled. Once you subscribe. Doesn’t work
Same issue for me. I can Airplay Youtube without an issue but Applefitness falls apart. I am able to play broken sound bits only and the image is almost 100% black.
What category did you use on the feedback page? I don't see an Airplay on Roku Category, or a Fitness+ category. The "Apple TV App" category might be close-ish, but isn't really right to me.
I did the same exact thing. Ruined my whole day actually
add me to the list. I want to like this fitness plus, but wasting over an hour with trying to set it up on Roku has left me rather annoyed
I had the exact same issue. This is very strange. I hope they fix it soon!
This is frustrating to say the least. I have many apple products and would love for this to be fixed!
