I purchased my new MacBook Pro in April of 2020 but my serial number is saying its a 2019 MacBook, why is this? My boyfriend also purchased a MacBook Air the same day I ordered my pro and his says its a 2020 but mine says 2019.

The 'year' refers to the design/launch year, not the purchase date. The 16" MBP I bought last month is a 2019 MBP. There is a 2020 13" MacBook Pro but it launched on May 4, 2020 so if you bought the 13" in April it was a 2019 model. The 2020 MacBook Air launched on March 18, 2020 so that's why your boyfriend's is a 2020 model.

There are many different version of the MacBook Air. Is this Intel MBA or a M1 MBA ...
M1 MBA were released in 2020
For example —If you buy a 16" MBP today in 2020 it is still going to give you the 2019 release date
