Apple Arcade Apple ID login loop

Hello all, new Mac user, new M1 MBP, new Apple ID. I got an offer for 3 months of Apple Arcade and would like to try it out (because who DOESN'T need even more productivity distractions) I have this problem. Every time I click "Try for free" to set it up it prompts me saying "sign in required" I click buy and then it adds a line for my password I enter that and click buy again and then after this a window pops up a few times and I click buy each time on that one but in the end nothing happens. I see others have had similar problems with other apps and services. I do have a credit card on file, I saw that was a fix for some in those cases. I am at a loss? Anyone know what to do?
