Years back I had burned some data including photos and videos onto a DVD , now when I try to copy that data on my mac , it says the the DVD is 'read only' , how to copy it now ? found some softwares that rip and convert these videos to mp4 etc , but why would I want to re encode my data just to copy paste it from one location to another.
You should be able to double-click on the DVD's icon on the Desktop,
this should show open a Finder window showing the contents of the
DVD.
It is then a simple matter of dragging the contents onto the Desktop
or into an appropriately named folder.

How are you doing the copy? You should be able to drag files from the DVD to a folder on the Mac, or to the Desktop.
Thanks for replying but the error it show is not able to copy as the disk is read only ... although I am able to play the files in video players ....
It's normal for a DVD with data to show as Read-Only. That shouldn't stop you from copying files from the DVD to the Mac. It will prevent you from copying files from the Mac to the DVD.
