copying a dvd in el captain

pretty new to this operating system. last one was lion. was an easy thing to do. I just want to copy and remake a dvd of my daughters dance recitals. I have no clue how to do this with utility. do I buy something. if so what? help. copy and burn thats all i want. no encryption. thank you.

Using only default/bundled OS X utilities, you could copy a home made (read: not copy-protected) DVD with /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.

Disk Utility: Select disc volume in the left column

Disk Utility: File﹥New Image﹥Image from “RECITALS” (or whatever you disc name is)

Disk Utility: … Save disk image file, Format DVD/CD master, Encryption None

… Reading and saving takes a few minutes, depending on the drive and connection.


Then burn back to a new disc:

To burn a disc image (.cdr or .dmg file) to a disc, Control-click the disc image file in Finder, choose “Burn Disc Image [disc name] to Disc” from the contextual menu, then follow the instructions.
