Unable to select apple tv as speakers in itunes

Since updating to Itunes 12.11.0.26 I am no longer able to stream music from my windows PC to either of two apple TV (3rd generation) on my network.

The Apple TV shows up on the list of speakers but when I click the tick box the cursor jumps up to My computer, the Apple TV tick box gets greyed out and the Banner at the top centre of screen says "Connecting to Apple TV", but fter a while I get an error message stating "The Airplay Device "Apple TV cannot be found on your network. Please verify your network settings and airplay configuration or select another device"

The network test on the Apple TV using wifi passes. If I connect the apple TV to my router with ethernet cable it then works fine.

I have tried logging the Apple TV out of my account then logging in again. Both our apple TV devices are 3rd generation and they both do the exact same thing albeit they have unique names. I'm convinced that this version of itunes broke this functionality as nothing else has changed. Been using it years before this happened.

Hello davebrannigan,

Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. We understand you're unable to stream music from iTunes to your Apple TV. We'll be happy to help.

We recommend to see if there's an available firmware update for the Wi-Fi router. You'll want to contact the manufacture of your router to see if that option is available.

In addition, we suggest to review that the settings for the Apple TV and iTunes, are aligned properly to use Home Sharing. For details, please follow the section in this article that says, "Before you set up Home Sharing": Use Home Sharing to share media from a computer to other devices

Best regards.

I'm not sure I follow. Surely if home sharing was not already turned on then it would not work when the ATV is connected over the Ethernet connection - but it does. Regardless I tried turning it off and on again to no avail.

Why would I need to go to British Telecom asking for new firmware to fix an issue that only started after the latest Itunes update? They are going to send me straight back to apple, besides, I checked and there is no update available. I am running the newest version of their router firmware.

What I have just done is connect my wife's laptop to the same network ethernet port as my desktop had been and the laptop plays normally with the ATV connected wirelessly and by wire so there is clearly something wrong with the install on the desktop, which is preventing it from playing to the ATV when the ATV is connected by wifi. Where to look next I don't know. Both desktop and Laptop are running itunes version12.11.0.26

Any ideas? Can I force a reinstall maybe without messing my settings up?

Regards

Dave

davebrannigan,

Thanks for getting back to us and providing those details. Excellent job with isolating this behavior with iTunes on your PC. Do you have a third party security software on your PC? The reason we ask is that it might be interfering with iTunes on your Wi-Fi network. If you haven't tried yet, we suggest to follow the recommended steps outlined in this article: Resolve issues between iTunes and third-party security software

If these steps do not help, we encourage for you to contact Apple Support to review this further. You can contact them through this link here: Get Support

Cheers.
