Cannot type password to open MacBook Air

Hello, I just purchased a 13” MacBook Air and downloaded all data from my old MacBook Pro. Now I am unable to get past the log in page as I cannot type my password, it prompts me to enter my password but will not allow any digits or letters to be typed. Thank you any help

Welcome to Apple Support Communities and congratulations on the purchase of your new MacBook Air. Let's try starting up your Mac in safe mode which will prevent certain software from loading during start up. If you're able to log in, restart your Mac and log in as you normally would. Starting in safe mode may take a little bit longer than normal. Check this out: How to use safe mode on your Mac
