macbook update

Hi! I have a Macbook pro 2017, four Thunderbolt 3 ports. I am trying to update it as I currently have macOS High Sierra. I looked up how to do it and it says that there is a software update icon in my system preferences where I can update it, but it's not there. Any ideas? Thank you.
