Canon has the same scanner and printer drivers released Dec 2020 for the D420 on both Catalina and Big Sur (11.0.1). If you have installed both, then you need to reset your printer.
With the printer on and connected to your Mac, visit System Preferences : Printers & Scanners, and right-click on your D420 Printer entry — choosing Reset printing system… . This will remove the printer entry, and allow you to re-add it after selecting the current and specific Canon drivers for the device. Print something. There should also be some option on the Printers & Scanners panel to setup the scanner with the current UFR/UFRII drivers for it.
If this is still not working, reboot your Mac, and try printing again.

I have a similar problem. When printing to my Canon D420, printing fails and files just sit in the print cue. Have attempted to remove the printer and add it again, however no driver was identified. So installed the new updated driver from Canon website. However, when adding the printer the new driver does not auto select, or show up in select software, and have not been able to locate a file to manually select using the 'Other..." function while navigating through Macintosh HD>Library>Printers>Canon>(many many files and folders, none appear to be drivers).
So far not impressed with Big Sur.
Hello erzsebet177,
It sounds like your printer is no longer working with your Mac after upgrading.
Here's a resource on this topic. You can try the steps in Solve printing problems on Mac.
Hope this information helps.
Have a good day.
