In the fitness app on my phone or iPad, I get various workout choices. but no way to subscribe.

There should be a "Try it Free" button in the Fitness App under the Fitness+ tab:
That would suggest you somehow already have an active Fitness+ subscription.
Are you sharing the Apple ID with someone?
NO, I have series 6 watch - which, along with my iPad and computer are uptodate. I CAN FIND NO WAY TO SIGN IN FOR APPLE FITNES+. As I said, when I go to the Fitness{+ button on my activity app, I get a list of various fitness programs. There is no way to sign up and start my free trial

No. I did sign up or a combo of all Apple extras - music, fitness, etc. so that must have activated my subscription. Too bad it wasn't more obvious
