M1 MacBook Pro FaceTime not showing other parties camera

I just purchased a new 2020 MacBook Pro 13" M1 and am having an issue with FaceTime not working. I have 3 young children with grandparents out of time and FaceTime is how we keep connected. However, since getting the new laptop I am unable to use FaceTime as the video of the other party never shows up. I can hear their audio, they can see me and I can see myself. However, I can't see them. I have called multiple people with newer computers and iPhones and I'm having the same issue. It happens on new phones that are updated as well as older phones/computers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
